Although North Hollywood is no Van Nuys (with a whopping four 8 magnet point schools, as of 2007-2008) North Hollywood does have two “8 magnet point” schools (PHBAO plus three-track “Overcrowded”). Meaning if the following are your LAUSD elementaries you have an excellent shot at having your pick of magnet schools, particularly in K and 1st grade (before those accruing waiting list points start to catch up with you).
Coldwater
Strathern Elementary
Then again, even a non-magnet neighborhood elementary like Lankershim has its charms (we Magnet Yentas have met a travelling art teacher who LOVES the school). The reported problem for prospective parents is a front office staff (so typical of the LAUSD) in that, while not unfriendly exactly, they aren’t particularly “customer”-oriented. (A North Hollywood family’s query as to whether Lankershim gave prospective tours was greeted with blankness, confusion, and an eventual no.) We could stand to be corrected–paging Lankershim!
What is the best magnet school with a K or 1st grade to apply to if I do have Coldwater as my LAUSD school?
Thanks for the advice! This helps calm my panic.
What if saticoy is your elementary school? Do you know if you get 8 points also. My son will start kinder in fall 2013. What magnet school can i apply in my area?
Any good elementary schools in north Hollywood for kinder that are considered charter or magnet?
We are in the special ed preschool program at Toluca Lake Elementary in North Hollywood. The teachers are excellent. So far I’ve had a positive impression of the rest of the school, although have not experienced it in depth.
We are in the special ed preschool program at Toluca Lake Elementary in North Hollywood. The teachers are excellent, and the campus is lovely with old growth trees and a garden. The parents in the special ed program tend to be actively involved. So far I’ve had a positive impression of the rest of the school, although have not experienced it in depth.
