Schools with Openings 2016-17

I’ve been informed that school starts in just a few weeks. Feel free to post SAS/magnet/neighborhood schools with openings–and the specifics of grade levels, and contact information. Help prevent split grade classrooms and help families find the right schools.

Happy end of summer. ❤

  1. Hello, our school (Dearborn Elementary Charter Academy) has openings in 4th and 5th grades. The school is located blocks away from CSUN and is a family oriented school. We will open a new Science Lab in the Fall. Our school offers a strong Arts and SAS Program. We offer Ballroom Dancing, YMCA Play Program, Vocal, Orchestra, Theatre, Computers and Fine Art! Come join us or check us out at

    Drop by and say hi!
    Mrs. Estrada
    Dearborn Elementrary Charter Academy

    • I have personally worked with Ms. Estrada as school site council president. All I can say is ANY family who has the opportunity to be in a school environment with her should jump at the chance. She’s committed, focused, and knowledgeable. I knew she’d leave the middle school my daughter attended some day and that the day that happened would be a loss to the middle school but a giant gain to the school community. Check it out.

  2. Clover Avenue Elementary, near National and Sepulveda in West Los Angeles, apparently has openings for grades TK-2. One of top rated elementary schools in LAUSD. If interested in a permit for those grade levels, call the office at 310-479-7739.

  3. Does anyone know how many 9th graders got into Granada Hills High from the open enrollment lottery/waiting list for 2016/2017? What are the chances nowadays for the school to accept kids off the wait list?

    • Granada is an independent charter. You can call them and see if they will tell you how many got in from the lottery and how far down the wait list they got, but they might not divulge this info. I’ve heard from current students that it’s the biggest freshman class they’ve seen. Take it with a grain of salt.

If Granada subscribes to the ‘norm day’ cut off, they could conceivably continue to call people until week 5. But they may be full and have no need to contact anyone else.

Your best source will be their office.

      Good luck.
