Open Enrollment 2015-16

Here’s the last school choice program for LAUSD’s 2015-16 year. If you’re still on a wait list for a magnet or an SAS, you may still be called, but you can get some piece of mind with a backup plan. Online applications are due by Friday May 22nd, 2015.

The application process begins here:

  1. my son is a second grader who just got his OLSAT-8 results and he had an SAI of 124 (93-8). I would like to know if he is eligible for the LAUSD’s SAS program in 3rd grade ( under the 85 percentile rule of LAUSD).

Besides if this score in OLSAT-8 would make him eligible for the following school grades ( i.e. 4th and 5th).

    • Students who score 95 and above on the total Age PR-S will be eligible to be identified in the High Achievement category.

Or Low income students* who receive a Total Age-Based Percentile Score between 90 to 94 percent.

*The poverty level for 2014 in the United States was set at $23,850 (total yearly income) for a family of four.

      • If you son do well at the school, your child can still apply at SAS school as a high ability student (meet all 4 critical thinking and problem solving skills), you will have to speak with your child’s teacher if he/she can sign off the form.

  2. If anyone x an answer this today it would be greatly appreciated:)!! My child got into cleveland sas program yesterday and santa susana high in simi valley. Need to answer today!!! My child is not athletic enjoys math over english. I have read up on both. Any feed back would help.thanks

  3. Richland Avenue Elementary School (Mar Vista area) still has open enrollment slots in kinder for its new French immersion program. It will be the first LAUSD school to offer a dual language program in French, i.e. half of each day will be spent learning in French, the other half in English. The principal is fantastic and he has high hopes for making this a very strong program. I enrolled my daughter at Richland after I learned that her SAS application chances were not good at the school my older daughter already attends (also on permit) due to heavy neighborhood enrollment. Want to get the word out about this exciting initiative in LAUSD!

  4. Carthay School of Environmental Studies Magnet still has openings for 4th and 5th grade!
Carthay is the only elementary school magnet in LAUSD with an Environmental Studies Focus. The curriculum includes Garden Science in our celebrated Garden of Possibilities and our science lab.
Beyond Environmental Studies, Carthay also has physical education (from STAR), dance (from CDI), music (from YMF), art and theater (from LAUSD).
Students who matriculate from a magnet school receive 12 magnet points when they apply to middle school magnets.
Apply through eChoices or call the school and talk to Magnet Coordinator Ms. Choi.
