Magnet Season Even Earlier

LAUSD has moved the deadline for the Choices brochure applications (Magnet/Permits with Transportation/Public School Choice) to before the holiday break.  This means that the “Meet the Magnet Nights” are earlier, and schools are giving tours throughout the month of  November.  I’d hoped that the e-Choices website would be updated, but it’s not.  Further, there will be no Choices Fair at UCLA or anywhere else.  Some local districts are attempting to put together informational meetings for their schools–so keep asking at your school, your local district, or your school board member.  Feel free to ask questions here, and if it’s an area I’m not familiar with, I’ll try to get help.  And if someone posts a question you feel you can help with–Please share your knowledge!

Meet the Magnets Night at Sepulveda Middle School is Wednesday,  November 4th, from 6-8 pm.  More info is located here:

And for prospective high school applicants, Monroe’s legendary Magnet Night is Thursday, November 5th, from 6-8 pm.  Their calendar entry is located here:

and keep checking for updates to the site

      • Thanks Angel.
I’m leading a public school seminar on Sun, Dec 6th, at 5pm at the ReDiscover Center in WLA. We will cover magnets, charters, permitting, elementary and middle school questions.
To register, find out more, or to utilize the many free resource links there, please see my new site:

  1. Hi, I just wanted to let you know that LAUSD Local District 3 will be holding a “Magnet Faire” for parents seeking middle schools on Saturday November 21 I believe beginning at 9:00am.

      • Yes, LD 3 Superintendent Michelle King and her staff deserve thanks for stepping up – but the Parent Community Advisory Council ( PCAC) deserves the credit for putting the need on the District radar.

Hope to see you all there!

  2. Just to clarify…the LD3 Magnet Faire will be for all grade levels, not just middle school. Elementary magnets, middle school magnets, and high school magnets will all be present. This even will occur from 9am to noon and will be taking place at Cochran Middle School (4066 W. 17th St. 90019).
I actually work for Cochran and am one of the school-site coordinators for this event.

    • Hi Kyle – I am trying to find out whether Palisades High’s Magnet Program will be reresented at tomorrow’s fair (11/21)

Thanks in advance for your response – Liz

      • Hi Liz,
Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner (This isn’t actually my site….I just “subscribe” to the comments RSS so I saw yours). As you may or may not have found out, Pali Magnet was not at the LD3 Magnet Faire. We invited them, but they weren’t able to make it. My suggestions would be for you to call them up and arrange a campus visit with them, which they seem very willing to do.

  3. Will the event on 11/21 be for all LAUSD Magnet schools or for just those in LD3. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am new to this, thanks!

    • Kristina –

All magnet schools within LD 3 have been invited and several magnet high schools that are not within LD 3 should be there, too. I will check the status tomorrow and post any update here.

  4. Info From Boardmembers Galatzan/Martinez:

    East Valley Middle School Night

    Wednesday, December 16 at 6:30pm

    Madison Middle School
    13000 Hart St, North Hollywood

This event is a great opportunity for parents and their children to become better acquainted with Middle Schools in the community. Parents and students will have a chance to interact with Middle School Principals during the information fair.

In addition to a presentation on the magnet school application, the following middle schools will be featured:
Byrd – Fulton – Madison – Millikan – Reed – Romer- Sepulveda – Sun Valley – Van Nuys – Vista

  5. Thanks, Maven.

I was going to post this but you beat me to it. My daughter’s only in third, but I think I’m going to try to go and start scoping.
